Theories of
Art Therapy/Counseling
Theoretical stances in art therapy that resonate with me, from B. Moon’s existential approach, to a community-focused Adlerian stance, and the application of the Expressive Therapies Continuum theory.

Art Therapy Theoretical Case Conceptualization
Using two theoretical models of art therapy, Object relations and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, I want to explore how each model would frame the issue and how a therapist from each modality would view, understand, and intervene with clients dealing with depression and eating disorders.

Expressive Therapies Continuum
Face to face with a new client, there are an infinite number of paths that will unfold during time together in therapy. The Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC) provides a framework for which types of media and methods can work effectively for a variety of clients.
The ETC, for me, brings a new toolbox of how to work with clients. Complimentary methods and/or materials can work on different areas of the brain and different areas of cognition. Maintaining the use of fluid or static materials can aid in accessing unconscious thoughts or feelings. If a client is overly caught in cognition or rumination, I would use a more fluid media. Using the ETC, I could increase body awareness through physicality, or help a client experience more calm depending on the ease or resilience of the material. -
Self in Practice
A look at my perceived style in my future practice and what has led up to these theories, morals, and fascinations.
I am still developing how and with whom I want to focus my work on. Working with grief, addiction, and especially working with men has been where I’ve gravitated. Men have been the least likely to seek therapy, and I would like to shift that by holding space for men’s issues (family dynamic, patriarchal thinking, societal pressure, etc.) in one-on-one therapy, art therapy, and group work.
